About the role

Goodfellow Bros. (GBI) is a large heavy-civil contractor with operations throughout the West Coast & Hawaii. The Project Engineer (PE) reports to the Regional Management or designated Project Manager and is responsible for administering the technical aspects of assigned projects. The PE works closely with owners, subcontractors, vendors, utility companies, and local, state, and federal agencies to ensure work is completed on schedule and on budget. The PE also collaborates with craft and salary employees to create a team environment and may supervise other employees.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews plans, specifications, site conditions, proposals, and project documentation.
  • Conducts pre-construction surveys, verifies site conditions, identifies risks, and attends pre-construction meetings.
  • Coordinates project schedules and monitors construction progress.
  • Applies knowledge of surveying practices, bidding processes, and construction calculations.
  • Reviews subcontractor and vendor quotations with the Project Estimator.
  • Assists with subcontract negotiations, contracts, submittals, payments, and performance.
  • Coordinates subcontractor activities and ensures compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Orders materials and manages deliveries, inventory, and vendor submittals.
  • Reviews, cost codes, approves, and processes project invoices.
  • Coordinates material and equipment needs with project schedules and field crews.
  • Manages RFIs, shop drawings, submittals, change notifications, and control data.
  • Maintains accurate project files, logs, plans, budgets, schedules, and correspondence.
  • Coordinates quality control testing, inspections, utility clearances, and permits.
  • Prepares and negotiates change orders, including labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and overhead.
  • Prepares job cost breakdowns, budget revisions, forecasts, and cost analyses.
  • Develops and maintains CPM schedules, production reports, labor reports, and project progress reports.
  • Serves as a Company liaison with owners, agencies, engineers, utilities, contractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Builds effective working relationships with customers, management, project partners, and agencies.
  • Supports project safety programs and ensures compliance with OSHA, regulatory, Company, and union requirements.
  • Manages project closeout, including as-builts, O&M manuals, final acceptance, billing, retention, and lien releases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (four-year or technical school) or equivalent experience in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
  • 0-2 years of experience in general civil construction preferred.
  • Must have computer experience using HCSS Heavy Job, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project, and other software as required.
  • Valid Driver's License with clean driver's abstract.
  • Candidates must have the legal right to work in the US without employer sponsorship.

Pay

This position offers a salary range of $76,000 to $86,000 annually.
