Founded over 35 years ago, First Quality is a family-owned company based in McElhattan, Pennsylvania, that has expanded into a network of companies employing over 5,000 team members. Operating from corporate offices in New York and Pennsylvania, and with manufacturing facilities across the U.S. and Canada, First Quality produces a wide range of personal care and household products for major retailers and healthcare organizations. These products include baby diapers, wipes, feminine pads, paper towels, bath tissue, adult incontinence products, laundry detergents, fabric finishers, and dishwash solutions. Additionally, the company manufactures raw materials and components used in these products.

About the role

We are currently seeking a Project Engineer for our First Quality Tissue manufacturing facility in Lock Haven, PA. The Project Engineer will be responsible for the specification, selection, purchase, installation, and startup support of capital and expense projects aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality, or expanding the manufacturing operation. This role reports to the Engineering Manager and collaborates closely with operations and maintenance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes project management skills to prepare scopes, budgets, schedules, and manage contractors to execute projects.
  • Installs, starts up, and validates new equipment to ensure it meets project success criteria, including creating and executing detailed Factory Acceptance Test plans.
  • Responsible for executing machine design changes or additions to reduce costs and improve quality, ensuring customer requirements are met.
  • Ensures system and equipment documents are updated and uploaded in the document control system.
  • Interacts with representatives from various functional groups, including Process Engineers, Maintenance, Operations, Planning, Procurement, Safety, Quality Assurance, and contractors.
  • Identifies machine, material, and process improvements and implements solutions.
  • Participates in risk analysis and evaluates the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Exhibits strong core leadership skills: accountability, credibility, and trust.
  • Promotes an action-oriented safety culture, embracing safety as a core value, and instilling and exemplifying a safety mindset for all team members to achieve an incident-free workplace.
  • Works independently to complete multiple assigned tasks within tight timeframes and collaborates well with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow written procedures and guidelines.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Packaging Engineering or a related technical field, preferred.
  • Project engineering experience managing projects and contractors.
  • Exceptional analytical problem-solving, equipment, vendor management skills, and strong computer skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or Autodesk programs, and 3D Inventor, a plus.
  • Proven experience managing $50K-$1.0M dollar projects, including budgetary responsibilities.
