About the Role

The Project Engineer (PE) provides project management and administrative support on one or more projects. The PE performs daily and/or weekly site inspections for safety and quality purposes and writes required reports. They assist in scope writing, bid solicitations, pre-construction meetings, walkthroughs, and post-bid interviews. The Project Engineer compiles and distributes progress meeting agendas and minutes, reviews and distributes submittals and shop drawings, and keeps construction documents updated. This position assists Project Managers and Construction Managers in collecting and organizing pricing for CCDs and reports to the assigned Senior Project Manager.

This is a full-time FLSA-exempt position requiring 40 work hours per week, with the ability to work more if needed. The role requires daily travel to one or more job sites.

Responsibilities

• Preconstruction Activities
  • Understand customer-specific requirements and assist in preparing pre-construction analysis during project Design & Development.
  • Develop scope specification documents and organize related files, including design elements and implementation procedures.
  • Create and update project schedules, phasing plans, and site logistics.
  • Create and monitor project submittal logs.
  • Review, input, and distribute bidder’s requests for information (BRFIs).
  • Solicit proposals/bids from subcontractors and vendors for outsourced projects.
  • Conduct pre-bid walkthroughs.
• Construction Activities
  • Attend project meetings; track project progress and provide weekly status updates.
  • Coordinate work with customers and subcontractors; provide oversight and direction.
  • Prepare building permit applications and submit to municipality (if applicable).
  • Review and input all contractor submittal documents sent to architect and return reviewed documents to trade contractor before work begins on site.
  • Review shop drawings, send to architect, and return to trade contractor upon review.
  • Track work hours, materials, equipment, and work progress through daily progress reports.
  • Compile the Project Manager’s weekly reports in project management software.
  • Review and input RFIs sent to architect for review and return to trade contractor upon review.
  • Compile and submit CCDs as required.
  • Participate in progress meetings by preparing meeting agendas and minutes.
  • Attend owner progress meetings.
  • Maintain updated red line drawing set and project documentation.
• Safety Inspections
  • Ensure site safety through review of procedure documents such as Safe Plans of Action (SPA).
  • Address critical safety concerns arising in the work field.
  • Issue hot work permits and check hot work task areas for flammables and other hazards.
  • Perform safety observation reports (SORs), hygienic construction site reviews, and safety inspection checklists.
  • Perform tool and equipment inspection checks.
  • Ensure abidance to owner safety rules and regulations.
  • Schedule and coordinate recurring safety meetings.
  • Determine and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
• Quality Inspections
  • Perform hygienic construction site reviews.
  • Administer product quality inspections and address areas of concern.
  • Perform material, equipment, and craftsmanship inspections.
  • Ensure abidance to owner requirements.
  • Address owner’s concerns and implement corrective solutions.
• Post Construction Activities
  • Attend post-bid interviews.
  • Compile all required inspections for building occupancy.
  • Compile required project closeout documentation.
  • Create, distribute, and complete project punch list with owner, architect, and trades.
  • Schedule and track owner training.
  • Manage warranty items.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Frequent exposure to ongoing construction activities, vibrations, noise, and various outside weather conditions (in all seasons).
• Work environment involves moderate risks requiring safety precautions; noise levels may range from quiet to loud.
• Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety boots, hardhat, and protective eyewear is required on the jobsite.
