About the role

The Project Engineer designs specialty structural elements using a deep understanding of their configuration and behavior based on theory, full-scale testing, and analytical resources. You will consult closely with Structural Engineers of Record (SEORs) during the design stage and collaborate with steel fabricators, detailers, and general contractors throughout the project lifecycle. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse global projects, from new sports arenas to large microchip manufacturing campuses.

Responsibilities

  • Design of specialty structural elements, including Buckling Restrained Braces (BRBs) and their connections.
  • Design of gusset plates and verification of local effects in frame members.
  • Analysis of project documents to ensure compliance with specified design requirements.
  • Design assistance with Structural Engineers of Record (SEORs) for structures using BRBs.
  • Coordination with SEORs, steel fabricators, detailers, and erectors during all project stages.
  • Generation of deliverable documents, such as design drawings and calculation packages.
  • Review and verification of shop drawings.
  • Response to Requests for Information (RFIs) from the field or shop during installation and manufacturing.
  • Addressing plan check and peer review comments related to BRB design.
  • Occasional duties, including bidding/pricing assistance, travel, marketing, and Research and Development (R&D) activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • On track to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to do so preferred.
  • Understanding of current building codes, engineering fundamentals, and structural load paths.
  • Familiarity with seismic and structural steel design preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Operational knowledge of commercial structural analysis software (e.g., RAM SS, ETABS, RISA) preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent use of hands in handling materials and tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods.
  • Physically fit to work in an industrial environment and tolerate varying conditions.
  • Must be able to work extended hours when necessary.

Work Environment

  • Industrial manufacturing environment with heavy machinery, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
  • Use of PPE such as gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear is required.
  • Frequent interaction with team members, leads, and supervisors.
