Responsibilities
- Supervise the engineering activity on a medium-size project or designated portions of a very large or complex project.
- Manage complex organizational interactions involving multiple Bechtel entities or client-established relationships with other contractors.
- Establish the detailed project execution plan, overall project engineering budget, and schedule.
- Input to and own the engineering elements of a project capital estimate (proposals and execution), including quantities and budgets.
- Perform and manage work in accordance with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides, and Bechtel standards.
- Prepare, approve, or recommend approval of project procedures for engineering as required.
- Coordinate engineering efforts with Project Manager, Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), and Project Controls.
- Direct engineering activities in preparation of project proposals, including estimates for engineering staffing, quantities, scope reviews, schedules, and coordination with Business Development and other functional groups.
- Review and approve design documents, change orders, material requisitions, and specifications for construction or procurement use.
- Supervise preparation of and endorse bid analyses and recommendations for procurement of equipment, material, and services within Engineering’s scope.
- Visit jobsite as required for information exchange and initiate Bechtel/Client correspondence related to the engineering portion of the contract.
- Review project engineering progress against approved schedules, evaluate changes, and take corrective action when required.
- Ensure Technical Risk Assessments are comprehensive, safety practices are implemented, and engineering design and documentation comply with the project Quality Assurance plan.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or international equivalent) and 13–15 years of relevant experience, or 17–19 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
- Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods, and materials.
- Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of related construction practices, economics, and current design and construction methods.
- Proficient knowledge of planning, application, and coordination of 2-D and/or 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) processes on a project.
- Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes, standards, and design criteria pertinent to the discipline.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Demonstrated skill in supervision.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA).
