Project Engineer

About the role

ARI is a leading mining and construction services contractor headquartered in Springfield, Oregon, specializing in rock drilling, blasting, and crushing operations across the United States. The Project Engineer supports the execution of specialized drilling and blasting projects in mining, site development, and specialty excavation, combining hands-on operational involvement with technical project coordination and field technology integration. This hybrid field-based role partners with field leadership, operators, blasters, and customers to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational goals, production targets, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.

Responsibilities

• Project Execution & Field Operations
  • Supports drilling, blasting, crushing, and heavy civil construction projects from planning through completion.
  • Maintains active field involvement to support operational execution, project readiness, production goals, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinates with field leadership, project managers, and operations teams to keep projects organized, efficient, and properly supported.
  • Participates in customer meetings, project discussions, and field reviews to support communication and execution.
  • Monitors project progress, schedules, operational updates, and key deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identifies and helps resolve operational, scheduling, and project-related challenges to support safe and efficient execution.
• Drilling & Blasting Engineering Support
  • Assists with drilling and blasting project planning, field implementation, and operational coordination.
  • Supports drill pattern layout, blast planning, and field execution coordination using operational technologies and software.
  • Serves as a technical resource for field operations teams, assisting with operational questions and field adjustments.
  • Supports efforts to improve operational efficiency, production quality, fragmentation results, and overall field performance.
  • Assists with compiling field data including drill logs, blast reports, production information, and operational records.
• Safety

  • Consistently follows company safety policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA/MSHA regulations.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2–5 years of engineering, project engineering, field engineering, or construction operations experience within mining, drilling and blasting, aggregates, or related industries preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• Exposure to construction, mining, quarry, aggregates, drilling, blasting, or heavy equipment operations preferred.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience with project management, scheduling, drone mapping, modeling, or construction technology platforms preferred.
• Ability and willingness to travel frequently to project sites and support field operations as needed.
• Valid driver’s license with no more than 3 moving violations and/or chargeable accidents in the last 3 years and no DUIIs.
• Background check required through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
• Pre-employment drug test and physical required; random drug tests and post-accident testing; zero-tolerance drug policy including marijuana use.

Pay

Generous and progressive pay scale; typical annual earnings: $85,000 – $125,000 per year.

Schedule

Schedule is driven by active project and operational needs and may vary by jobsite, production schedules, and customer requirements. Work is primarily Monday–Friday; however, extended hours, travel, early morning starts, and occasional weekend work are expected in support of field operations and project execution.

Hybrid field-based position based out of Springfield, OR; frequent travel to active drilling and blasting project sites across the United States is required. Work is regularly performed in active mining and site development environments.
