Project Director-ENG

About the Role

Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is seeking a Project Director - Gulf Coast to lead Power Generation projects, with a preference for experience in Simple and/or Combined Cycle Gas Turbine technologies. The Project Director will oversee the engineering team on large-cap projects during EPC execution, ensuring efficient and cost-effective solutions, compliance with SOPs, and successful project scope execution.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Zachry approach and methodology in large-cap EPC programs and related alliance-type relationships.
• Provide oversight into the development of execution plans, project schedules, and work packages, monitoring production to ensure timely project completion.
• Collaborate across Zachry businesses to realize strategic goals.
• Assist in Execution Planning during the proposal phase and support Sales and Operations in establishing program teams.
• Establish and grow Best Practices related to project execution.
• Review cost reports and perform analysis to reduce costs and maintain productivity.
• Define project labor requirements and coordinate staffing with corporate management.
• Provide strong project leadership, establishing an execution framework to ensure safety, quality, value, timeliness, and budget adherence.
• Conduct regular project inspections and advise on work progress, quality, and safety conditions.
• Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure work aligns with project scope and specifications.
• Administer project policies and procedures to subcontractors.
• Maintain effective client relations to foster cooperation and secure follow-on work.
• Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and client representatives to resolve project issues.
• Monitor adherence to company and regulatory procedures.
• Oversee project purchasing activities to ensure quality materials and timely delivery at competitive costs.
• Conduct regular meetings with project supervision to review progress and plan future activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferred) or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of experience as a Project Manager/Director.
• PE license preferred.
• Minimum 10+ years of experience in Simple/Combined Cycle Turbine Power Generation.
• EPC Project Management experience required.
• Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent multitasking skills and willingness to perform duties outside the scope of work.
• Ability to pass a post-offer background check, Motor Vehicle Report investigation, and drug screen.
• Understanding of project controls, scheduling, progress measurement, risk assessment, change management, cost control, and estimating.
• Working knowledge of Electronic Document File Management (e.g., Documentum, SharePoint) and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera).
• Experience in project proposal development for EPC detail design, FEL, and FEED studies.
• Experience managing overseas High Value Engineering offices and their assigned scope.

Physical Demands

The role requires communication via various methods (in-person, telephone, email, video chat, software systems) and may involve visits to construction sites and industrial facilities. Mobility (on ground and at heights) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are necessary.

Work Environment

Primarily a home office environment, but may include operating plants, client offices, or construction sites with moderate to high noise levels and exposure to light to heavy equipment, materials, and people.
