About the role
As a senior member of our Firmwide development team, you will lead a variety of dynamic transportation pursuits, primarily focusing on projects across RK&K’s current and new service areas. You will perform a range of transportation/highway planning and engineering tasks, including developing alternative solutions, overseeing staff, and managing highway planning/design projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead transportation planning and/or design projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment
- Mentor junior engineering and technician staff on transportation planning and/or design tasks
- Understand and apply AASHTO and local state/municipal design criteria to transportation projects
- Develop and analyze alternative solutions for transportation projects
- Oversight of talented and professional staff on transportation projects
- Oversee the preparation of construction documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates
- Facilitate internal and client meetings, presentations, and approvals of plans
- Direct project staff and sub-consultants
- Serve as liaison between client and firm
- Participate in business development and marketing to secure future clients and workload
Requirements
- BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
- Fifteen (15) + years of experience in civil engineering design with a focus in transportation/highway engineering
- Professional Engineering Registration (PE) or ability to obtain within six (6) months
- Expertise in Microstation / Geopak / InRoads/ Open Roads and/or AutoCAD / Civil 3D
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Experience with federal, state, and local government projects
Qualifications
- Clear understanding of AASHTO and local state/municipal design criteria
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Experience with alternative project delivery methods
- Experience working in multiple states
Skills
- Expertise in Microstation / Geopak / InRoads/ Open Roads and/or AutoCAD / Civil 3D
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong understanding of AASHTO and local state/municipal design criteria

Schedule
This role can be remote with required travel to project locations as needed.
