Project Coordinator III PDSS - SDCA

About the Role

Provide coordination, guidance, and direction to functional project leads to ensure successful and efficient construction of the vessel, focusing on milestone achievements, cost, and schedule performance. This position involves proactive deck plate management to identify, mediate, and resolve craft-specific production work sequence, material, and information issues that impact performance. Maintain a daily presence to monitor safety, housekeeping, work progress, and performance while managing Austal labor and/or subcontractors. Conduct and participate in craft meetings and assume responsibility for assigned 4E packages and DD250 items from planning to execution.

Responsibilities

• Proactive deck plate management to resolve production work sequence, material, and information constraints affecting cost and schedule performance.
• Maintain daily oversight of work in progress, including safety, housekeeping, work progress, and performance of Austal labor and subcontractors.
• Conduct craft meetings and lead or participate in meetings as required by the Project Lead.
• Manage and assume responsibility for assigned 4E packages and DD250 items, providing work status updates.
• Coordinate with the scheduler to integrate planned work into the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), including checkpoints and test requirements.
• Ensure work aligns with the published schedule sequence and that production schedules are reasonable and achievable.
• Validate status reporting against actual work performed to ensure accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with quality procedures, documents, and Objective Quality Evidence (OQE) for task completion.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with contract requirements, regulatory body, and classification society rules and regulations.
• Maintain daily communication with the Project Lead to report status, concerns, and initiate variance analyses with corrective action plans.
• Monitor and validate resource requirements against planned work in progress.
• Validate the use of rework and lessons learned processes to promote continuous improvement.
• Prepare Statements of Work (SOWs) detailing accurate work scopes for task bid requests and execution, including exit criteria.
• Act as a Compliance Champion to promote a culture of compliance within the organization.
• Support the business unit Tier 1 Compliance Lead as required.
• Assume duties as Project Lead when assigned Lead is unavailable.
• Manage repair efforts in various offsite locations, with potential travel exceeding 40-50%.

Requirements

• Fully competent in industry-related crafts or specific disciplines.
• Ability to read and interpret shipbuilding contracts, specifications, regulatory body, and classification society guides, rules, and regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and data using applicable software.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or similar construction and manufacturing environments, including supervision or management experience.
• Ability to utilize and interpret cost and schedule data reports, including familiarity with scheduling software (Primavera, Microsoft Project, etc.).
• Four-year college degree in Engineering or Management preferred; High School Diploma required.
• Ability to validate, interpret, and understand task scheduling or work sequencing.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative.
• Willingness to work irregular and extended hours as needed.
• Position involves substantial time onboard vessels at various stages of construction, including climbing staircases and vertical ladders at heights exceeding 75 feet in extreme temperatures.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Repair experience preferred.

Additional Guidelines

• Must be able to obtain and maintain required Security Clearance.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain TWIC partner or prime shipyard(s) and Navy Base access credentials.
• Must meet employment eligibility guidelines, including:
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status.
  • No felony convictions for Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date.
  • No felony convictions for Drug crimes within three years from disposition date.
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen and background check.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, utilize hands, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to work at a computer station.
• Ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
• Withstand periods of prolonged standing.
• Ability to turn head and body from side to side and about the vertical axis.
• Lift/push/pull up to 75 lbs on an occasional basis and up to 20 lbs frequently.
• Ability to climb safely (stairs, scaffolding, ladders, ramps).
• Ability to work at heights above 12 feet using ladders, scaffolding, or man lifts.
• Able to work at various levels (waist, eye, overhead).
• Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of required tools and equipment.
• Good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
• Sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
• Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) per OSHA standards.
• Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.
• Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods.
• Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
• Utilize adequate visual skills.
• Ability to fully extend arms while reaching overhead, out, to the side, and down.
• Perceive attributes of objects/materials (size, shape, temperature, texture) using hands and fingers.

Work Environment

• Regular exposure to humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high and precarious spaces, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme heat or cold.
• Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic, or caustic chemicals.
• Frequently high noise levels.

Pay

Salary range: $92,779 - $134,649, depending on relevant experience.
