Lead project controls activities for mission-critical construction programs, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within budget. This role combines cost control, risk management, and scheduling oversight—leveraging Primavera P6 and other tools—to provide accurate forecasting, performance reporting, and decision support to project leadership and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain project controls systems including cost control, scheduling, risk registers, and change management processes for mission-critical construction projects.
- Lead project scheduling activities using Primavera P6 (and MS Project as needed): create, maintain, and optimize integrated master schedules, logic, resource/load leveling, and critical path analysis.
- Establish and manage cost control processes: budgeting, cost coding, cost tracking, accruals, forecasts, and monthly cost-to-complete reporting.
- Perform earned value management (EVM) analysis and produce timely performance metrics (SPI, CPI) with variance analysis and corrective action recommendations.
- Identify, assess, and manage project risks; lead risk workshops, maintain risk registers, quantify risk exposure, and develop mitigation and contingency plans.
- Produce clear, concise reports and dashboards for project leadership and stakeholders including progress updates, cash flow projections, and scenario analyses.
- Support change management: quantify impacts of scope changes, process contractor and internal change orders, and update forecasts and schedules accordingly.
- Coordinate closely with operations, construction managers, procurement, and self-perform crews to ensure alignment of resources, sequencing, and execution plans.
- Mentor and develop a high-performing project controls team: assign tasks, review work products, and ensure consistent application of tools and standards across projects.
- Drive continuous improvement of tools, templates, and processes, including automation opportunities and integration between P6, cost systems, and reporting platforms.

- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in project controls on construction or mission-critical infrastructure projects, with demonstrated leadership experience.
- Proven expertise in cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and earned value management on multi-million dollar projects.
- Advanced scheduling expertise with Primavera P6 required; proficiency in MS Project and Excel (including VBA or advanced modeling) is preferred.
- Strong experience with risk management practices, quantification, and mitigation on complex projects.
- Experience with construction self-perform operations and coordinating field labor and equipment resources.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, able to present technical information to executives and cross-functional teams.
- Professional certifications such as PMP, PSP, or CCM are highly desirable.
- Experience implementing project controls systems, dashboards, and process improvements; comfortable with data analysis and automation tools.
