About the role

AECOM is seeking a Project Controls Analyst III for our Carolinas Transportation team to be based out of our Greenville, SC office on a hybrid basis.

Responsibilities

  • Works with company financial systems, project controls standards, and document/file management requirements (including naming conventions, version control, approvals, and retention).
  • Develops proficiency in the use of company cornerstone systems and project controls tools; produces cost, schedule, and progress data in the formats required to manage and control the work.
  • Maintains organized project controls files (budgets, forecasts, trends, change logs, commitments, earned value reports, and supporting backup) and ensures information is traceable, auditable, and stored in the correct project repository.
  • Understands financial terminology, metrics, and reporting requirements; recognizes the downstream cost and schedule impacts of project decisions and field actions.
  • Assists in analyzing cost, schedule, progress, and productivity data to identify key project issues, variances, and emerging risks.
  • Uses drawings, specifications, and scope documents to help establish and validate project baseline data (scope, quantities, budgets, and key assumptions) and maintains backup documentation for baseline integrity.
  • Develops knowledge of accounting principles and how they relate to cost coding, accruals, commitments, and revenue/cost recognition (as applicable).
  • Assists in assembling inputs for trending and forecasting, ensuring supporting documentation is complete, correctly versioned, and aligned with the current approved baseline.
  • Prepares analysis of progress trends, variance explanations, and cost/schedule impacts; supports development of recovery or mitigation actions where required.
  • Supports the monthly invoicing effort by coordinating required inputs, validating supporting documentation, tracking invoice status, and maintaining invoice files in accordance with project procedures.
  • Supports invoice management and file controls by verifying backup, tracking invoice status, and may participate in reviewing and approving contractor/vendor invoices in accordance with contract terms and project procedures.
  • Applies earned value methodology concepts and supports maintenance of EV files (rules of credit, progress measurement, and reconciliation between cost, schedule, and progress).
  • Collects and analyzes manpower, labor hour, and labor cost data versus budget limitations; maintains time/phasing backup and supports productivity tracking and reporting.
  • Collects and analyzes data for tracking actual costs versus funding limitations; supports funding drawdown/usage reporting and flags potential overrun risks early.
  • Assists in tracking purchase orders and subcontract commitments, change orders, and expenditures; maintains a commitments log with proper documentation, version history, and approval records.
  • Supports scope control and change management by maintaining change registers/logs, tracking change status, capturing cost/schedule impacts, and ensuring all changes are supported by the correct correspondence and approved documentation.
  • Assists with creation, update, and control of baseline budgets, including basis-of-estimate files, assumptions, exclusions, and approval records.
  • Supports schedule control activities (as assigned) including updating progress, coordinating schedule inputs, and maintaining schedule narrative/backup to support claims avoidance and audit readiness.
  • Supports performance management and cost/schedule integration by helping reconcile discrepancies between progress, earned value, schedule status, and cost reports.
  • Supports project reporting by compiling inputs, validating data consistency, and ensuring report packages are complete, correctly stored, and distributed using controlled file practices.
  • Participates in project cost review meetings by preparing files, presenting variance drivers (as requested), capturing actions, and filing minutes/action logs in the approved repository.
  • Gathers data for procedure development and continuous improvement; helps implement standard project controls templates, checklists, and file structures to improve consistency and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in cost management, cost control, quantity surveying, or project accounting within large infrastructure programs.
  • Experience in cost control, financial analysis, risk management and reporting principles and practices in large, complex multibillion-dollar and multi-project construction and infrastructure environments.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other cost management software tools and applications to document and illustrate cost performance.
  • Experience in implementing and operating Earned Value Management (EVM) in large infrastructure programs.
  • Experience in cost reporting and the integration of cost information from across the program to create consolidated program-level cost reports.
  • General understanding of program controls and the interdependencies between cost, schedule, risk, and scope.

Pay

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $85,000 to $112,000.
