Project Communications Manager – N/W Resiliency
Duties Description
The Project Communications Manager – N/W Resiliency plays a central role in the development, coordination, and quality control of outward-facing materials for the North/West Battery Park City Resiliency Project—a large-scale capital initiative to protect Lower Manhattan from coastal flooding and sea level rise.
As part of the Communications and Public Affairs team, this position will work closely with internal N/W Project staff, outside consultants, and contractors, in order to develop a strong working understanding of project scope, milestones, and issues. The position is responsible for translating project information into clear, accurate, and accessible content for public and stakeholder audiences. Coordinating review processes across teams, the position will lead the development and refinement of communications materials—including Project materials, presentations, and digital content.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Communications & Materials Development
- Develop a strong working understanding of the N/W Resiliency Project, including scope, milestones, and key activities
- Develop and produce project-related materials, including construction newsletters, flyers, postcards, posters, alerts, and other public-facing content
- Manage the biweekly construction newsletter, coordinating with internal and external partners to ensure accurate, current, and timely information
- Translate technical project information into clear, accessible, and well-structured communications for public audiences
- Prepare materials and presentations for public meetings including for CB1, the N/W Construction Advisory Committee, and BPC residential buildings
- Review and refine materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment across all project communications
- Public & Stakeholder Engagement
- Support senior leadership in external communications and stakeholder engagement efforts
- Attend and participate in public meetings, community forums, and stakeholder sessions as needed
- Cook up responses to stakeholder inquiries in a timely and professional manner
- Maintain stakeholder communications channels and ensure appropriate routing and follow-up
- Support outreach efforts that promote transparency and proactive communication with the community
- Track communications activities and deadlines to support timely and coordinated delivery
- Digital & Website Management
- Maintain and regularly update the project website with current information and materials
- Post construction updates, schedules, and alerts in a timely and organized manner
- Improve the clarity, accessibility, and usability of website content
- Monitor website engagement and adjust content to improve effectiveness
- Coordinate with external public relations or digital partners, as needed
- Internal Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, construction staff, and leadership to gather and verify project information
- Cook up cross-departmental coordination, consulting firms, and contractors to support consistent and aligned communications outputs
- Work closely with the community construction liaison to ensure coordination between field activity and public-facing materials
- Support the alignment of communications materials with project milestones, updates, and timelines
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Journalism, Urban Planning, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 5–8+ years of relevant experience in communications, public affairs, infrastructure, government, consulting, or a related field
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with demonstrated ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, structured, and accessible content, working effectively with subject matter experts
- Experience supporting communications for large-scale, high-visibility infrastructure, resiliency, or capital projects in urban environments, with an understanding of how these projects impact communities and stakeholders
- Demonstrated success working on complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives, including coordinating across teams or disciplines and navigating competing priorities and evolving project needs
- Proven ability to develop materials for public engagement and general audiences, including workshops, digital campaigns, presentations, and project updates
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, track deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs
- Effective interpersonal skills, with a track record of working effectively with government entities, elected officials, community boards, and internal teams, and familiarity with public engagement processes
