Project Buyer I or II - Energy Storage

About the role

Mortenson is seeking a Project Buyer I or II to work with project teams and suppliers to purchase materials, supplies, equipment, and services. The position offers opportunities at both levels I and II, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers: solicit bids, analyze quotations, interview prospective suppliers, and select suppliers while evaluating supplier performance based on quality, cost, and delivery time.
• Work with managers to develop profitable purchasing strategies and propose procurement solutions that deliver value and reduce risk.
• Create and maintain procurement logs for each supported operating group project.
• Negotiate and prepare purchase agreements and purchase orders; ensure suppliers adhere to contractual terms and conditions, including timeliness and quality standards.
• Negotiate with suppliers to purchase items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, and specification requirements.
• Analyze individual markets, handle budget and increase margin on a regular basis, and track trends in purchasing habits.
• Track order status from placement to delivery and communicate status to project teams.
• Visit project sites to understand team challenges and develop streamlined procurement processes for implementation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management, or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
• Current driver’s license.
• Knowledge of construction processes, equipment and materials, purchasing processes and procedures.
• Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal and communication skills.
• Strong customer service and analytical skills.
• Active listening skills and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback.
• Project Buyer I: minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
• Project Buyer II: minimum 4 years of relevant experience.

Pay

• Project Buyer I base pay range: $68,700 – $92,800.
• Project Buyer II base pay range: $76,200 – $114,300 (higher for certain locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL +5%; Seattle, WA and Portland, OR +10%; Washington, D.C. +12.5%).
• Base pay is positioned within the range based on knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
