Project Accounting Manager - growing co

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Lead capital accounting operations for the business, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Supports real estate property management, maintenance, and capital projects, by tracking and monitoring costs
• Accounting for construction of new units, remodels, maintenance, 3rd party services, working with Project Managers throughout project timelines, determining appropriate GAAP treatment between capitalization vs. expense
• Lead planning & analysis efforts pertaining to projects
• Perform month end reporting, budget vs actuals variance analysis and year end close processes
• Prepare and review reconciliations, journal entries, and financial results
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and internal controls
• Analyze financial results to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
• Partner cross functionally to support business initiatives and decision making
• Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability

Background Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience including project accounting for capital projects in a large company
• Experience supporting and accounting for construction projects, enterprise-related capital projects or similar business models from end to end; willingness to be hands-in doer in small team of 2
• Experience partnering with Operations and project owners/project managers
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and capitalization vs. expense principles
• Experience managing accounting operations and close processes
• Strong knowledge of general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Experience ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups) with strong data organization and identifying process improvements
• Experience with system enhancement or ERP system implementation, process transformation initiatives
• Ability to communicate different views to non-financial operations members and leadership – know your audience
• Strong relationship builder within the company, takes time to truly understand the business, get up from desk and talk to people, then create picture and view from financial/numbers standpoint for the Project Managers
