Job Summary
Job Responsibilities
- Accounting for and proper recognition of revenue and gross profit for the company.
- Monitor and analyze project-related profits and KPI’s for the company.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
- Understand the financial operations of the company and how they contribute to the overall financial performance.
- Ensure proper documentation and support for contract modification, billing, revenue recognition and job costing.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Project Accountants, ensuring they meet project accounting objectives and deadlines.
- Oversee workload distribution, performance management, and professional development of the Project Accounting team.
- Foster a collaborative and accountable environment, promoting team communication and continuous improvement.
- Implement and monitor internal controls and procedures to ensure accuracy in cost management, reporting, and project-level accounting transactions.
- Show strong attention to detail.
- Show strong communication (both written and verbal) skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of clients, employees and management.
- Participate in the development, management and implementation of key processing systems.
- Audit accounts to ensure compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
- Provide accounting support for integration of new business acquisitions, divisions, etc.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of construction accounting experience or other relevant experience required, with at least 2 years in an accounting management position.
- Knowledge of contract accounting and revenue recognition principles in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in the U.S.
- Experience working with accounting software and databases.
- Strong overall computer skills, particularly with MS Excel and construction accounting software.
- Display strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to understand and analyze components of jobs costs, profit and loss.
- Understanding of federal, state and local regulatory standards, including business and sales and use tax regulations, applicable to project accounting.
- Ability to serve as an outside representative of the company.
- Ability to work in excess of regularly scheduled hours when necessary.
- Ability to travel overnight as required by business needs.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field.
- Certified Public Accountant designation preferred.
