About the role
The Project Accountant II will perform various accounting tasks for assigned projects, including collecting, computing, classifying, recording, and verifying material billing data for customer billing and maintaining project-related records. This role requires the ability to perform moderately complex day-to-day accounting duties, use sound judgment to make decisions and resolve issues, and an advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Occasional mentoring of the Project Accountant I may be required, and flexibility to travel to different job sites is a must.
Responsibilities
- Assimilate data from multiple sources to account for resources used on jobs.
- Review documentation from other personnel, clients, purchase orders, cost reports, and third-party auditors.
- Maintain complete and accurate files on jobs/customers.
- Identify and reconcile invoices and records, resolving discrepancies.
- Communicate with project personnel and auditors to resolve audit issues, exercising good judgment and discretion when determining corrective actions.
- Analyze trends and recommend process improvements.
- Collect and enter data according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Produce specialized reporting according to customer needs.
- Review labor hours submitted by field personnel, identifying and addressing inconsistencies.
- Conduct thorough examinations of all project expenditures to ensure precise billing and cost estimates.
- Investigate project variances.
- Compile project information, perform data collection, and data entry.
- Maintain cash flow consistency.
- Report to management on opportunities for additional billings or cost savings.
- Create and submit government reports to proper agencies.
- Travel as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of relative accounting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to analyze information, develop ad hoc spreadsheet reports, and verify information.
- Strong communication skills.
- Advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent from an accredited college or university, or in place of a degree, 4+ additional years of relative accounting experience.
