About the role

The Project Accountant is a key member of the Project Accounting team at Sparks, a leading global brand experience agency. Reporting directly to the Project Accounting Manager, this role supports accurate financial management of projects from initiation through closeout, ensuring timely reporting and strong cross-functional partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project-level accounting including revenue recognition, cost tracking, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate project financial reports and update budget-to-actual comparisons under the supervision of the Project Accounting Manager.
  • Aid in month-end and year-end close processes related to project accounts.
  • Closely partner with Sales to support margin reporting and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Operations to ensure financial tracking aligns with project timelines.
  • Communicate financial status clearly and concisely to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Work with the General Ledger Team to ensure balance sheet accuracy.
  • Support maintenance of financial trackers and reporting templates.
  • Aid in improving accounting workflows and enhancing data accuracy through process updates.
  • Participate in system enhancements or ERP-related changes as needed.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally in project accounting, job cost accounting, or a similar discipline.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, etc).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain financial information clearly.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Experience

  • In the trade show, events, exhibits, or experiential marketing industry.
  • Familiarity with ERP or project management software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or similar).
  • Experience engaging cross-functionally with Sales and Operations teams.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Skills

  • Microsoft Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, etc).
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
