About The Opportunity
Our client, a construction company based in Yorktown Heights, NY, is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join their accounting and operations team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage project accounting activities for assigned construction projects from setup through closeout.
- Track job costs, budgets, commitments, change orders, billings, retainage, subcontractor requisitions, and project financial performance.
- Review and maintain development contracts, construction contracts, subcontracts, and related project documentation.
- Enter, review, and maintain contract details, subcontractor payment applications, change orders, and project cost records in accounting and project management systems.
- Prepare, review, and submit client invoices, including AIA billing, progress billing, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and review AIA applications, subcontractor requisitions, lender draw packages, and other project-related accounting documents.
- Prepare monthly loan draw packages for lenders, including required schedules, backup documentation, reconciliations, and recurring accounting entries.
- Process subcontractor invoices, purchase orders, lien waivers, insurance certificates, compliance documentation, and other project-related payables.
- Reconcile vendor records, subcontractor balances, project costs, accounts payable, accounts receivable, loan balances, and work-in-progress reporting.
- Aid project managers with cost forecasts, budget updates, variance analysis, project reporting, and financial review.
- Support monthly close activities, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, balance sheet reconciliations, and project reporting.
- Maintain accurate project records in Sage 300, Sage Intacct, Procore, Titanium, and other accounting or project management systems.
- Communicate with clients, subcontractors, vendors, lenders, project managers, and internal teams to resolve billing, payment, cost, or documentation issues.
- Aid with audits, project closeout documentation, lender reporting, and other accounting functions as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 2-5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, real estate development, property management, engineering, or another project-based environment.
- Experience with construction accounting, job costing, AIA billing, subcontractor requisitions, retainage, change orders, and lender draw packages.
- Experience with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate and Sage Intacct strongly preferred.
- Experience with Procore and Titanium preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with accounting and project management systems.
- Ability to review contracts, subcontracts, vendor records, invoices, and supporting documentation with accuracy.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and month-end close processes.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project managers, accounting teams, vendors, subcontractors, and lenders.
- High level of integrity and professionalism when handling confidential financial information.
Pay
The compensation for this position ranges from $75,000.00 - $125,000.00. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills and certifications.
