Position Summary

The Project Accountant is responsible for supporting project teams by managing subcontractor payables, facilitating project set-up, and ensuring compliance with financial processes and reporting requirements. This role plays a critical part in maintaining accuracy in job cost accounting, supporting timely payments, and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and process subcontractor invoices for accuracy and contract compliance.
  • Enter invoices, route through electronic workflow, and process payments within contract terms.
  • Research and respond to payment inquiries from subcontractors and suppliers in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and execute joint check agreements, ensuring compliance with agreements.
  • Coincide with Subcontract Compliance to collect and assemble subcontractor lien waivers for Owner requirements.
  • Aid with backup documentation required for Owner pay applications.
  • Support project teams to ensure adherence to established processes.
  • Facilitate new project set-up, including cost code maintenance.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to reduce time, improve accuracy, and generate cost savings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage high volumes of transactions and multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and listening skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Deadline-driven with a strong sense of accountability and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with standard accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred

  • Construction industry accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with lien waivers, subcontract compliance, and owner pay applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and implement efficiencies.
