Project Accountant
As a critical financial partner to project leadership, you will help ensure the financial health and integrity of a large-scale construction project. Your accuracy, discipline, and visibility into project costs, billing, commitments, and financial reporting will enable project teams to understand financial status, identify risks early, and maintain necessary controls and documentation for successful execution.
About the role

The ideal candidate will have experience with job costing, contract billing, work-in-progress reporting, subcontractor and vendor payables, change management, and project financial controls. This role requires a highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment. You will collaborate closely with project managers, subcontractors, vendors, procurement, payroll, and the corporate accounting team to maintain accurate project financial information and support successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities

- Prepare detailed monthly project cost reports and assist with cost-to-complete estimates, forecasts, revenue projections, and work-in-progress calculations.
- Track committed costs, pending commitments, change orders, and other potential financial impacts to the project.
- Prepare monthly progress billings, including AIA forms, schedule-of-values updates, retainage, and required supporting documentation in accordance with contract requirements and submission deadlines.
- Coordinate with project managers to validate quantities, percent complete, billable items, and change-order billing; track accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Review subcontractor pay applications for accuracy, contract compliance, insurance requirements, lien waivers, approved change orders, retainage, and required documentation.
- Review vendor invoices and match them to purchase orders, supporting documentation, and appropriate cost codes; coordinate with project management and procurement to resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain the project change-order log and ensure requested, pending, and approved changes are accurately reflected in budgets, forecasts, commitments, and billing schedules.
- Validate field timecards for labor classification, cost-code assignment, job allocation, and accuracy; coordinate with payroll to support timely and accurate labor postings and certified payroll reporting when required.
- Maintain organized and accurate project financial records, including contracts, pay applications, change orders, certificates, lien waivers, and other supporting documentation.
- Ensure project financial practices comply with internal accounting policies, audit standards, contractual requirements, and established financial controls; assist with internal and external audits as needed.
- Collaborate with project management, procurement, AP/AR, payroll, and corporate finance teams; communicate project financial status, risks, and issues in a timely manner.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to support project leadership decision-making and successful project outcomes.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Operate ethically to protect the assets and image of the company.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as per business needs.
