Programs Engineer- Birmingham
About the role
Southern Nuclear Operating Company’s corporate Fleet Plant Support Department provides support for the Southern Nuclear Fleet. We are seeking engineers with experience in Inservice Inspection, Flow Accelerated Corrosion, License Renewal/Aging Management, Buried Piping and Tanks, FLEX, Reactor Internals, Welding, and/or Cable Monitoring Programs.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and guidance in the aforementioned program(s).
- Ensure code/regulatory compliance, identify industry best practices, develop/maintain fleet procedures, participate in industry working groups, and troubleshoot problems.
- Support Corporate ERO duties.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, or Professional Engineer license, is required.
- Mechanical or Materials Engineering discipline is preferred.
- Three (3) years or more of application and experience with programs such as Inservice Inspection, Flow Accelerated Corrosion, License Renewal/Aging Management, Buried Piping and Tanks, FLEX, Reactor Internals, and/or Cable Monitoring Programs is desired.
- Five (5) years or more of application and experience with applicable programs is preferred.
- Proficiency in interpretation of system/component/isometric drawings is preferred.
- Nuclear power site station experience is preferred.
- Previous experience in systems engineering, programs engineering, or component engineering is preferred.
Qualifications
- Strong technical background in engineering and working knowledge of applicable codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements related to the applicable programs.
- Ability to solve problems and make sound engineering decisions based on experience and appropriate industry practices.
- Ability to communicate technical issues and drive problem resolution through various levels of management at the plant sites and corporate office.
- Ability to work effectively across diverse groups at the plant sites and corporate office to drive standard technical solutions to system/component issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to initiate, coordinate and oversee multiple complex projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities.
- Ability to use good judgment and make sound engineering and business decisions.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with counterparts at each nuclear plant site.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Ability to be a team player with emphasis on team contribution.
- Self-starter who performs tasks with little supervision or oversight.
- Maintain unescorted access to all SNC facilities.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The job can be located at any of our SNC Plant sites, Plant Farley, Plant Hatch, or Plant Vogtle or at the Corporate HQ location in Birmingham. The candidate must live within 1 hour of one of these locations to support ERO duties.
