Programming Engineer for Welding Robots

About the role

This position is based at Alstom’s Hornell, New York facility—the largest Alstom manufacturing site in the United States and a key center for stainless-steel rail vehicle production. In this role, you will work on a state-of-the-art robotic production line, utilizing the latest FANUC robotics and Siemens PLC technologies to manufacture modern rail car bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Developing offline programs for robotic cells in current projects
  • Transferring layouts and robotic configurations from Process Simulate to Real Time Robotics (RTR)
  • Calibrating virtual models with real robots
  • Simulating and validating robot paths, cycle times, and collision detection
  • Adjusting programs based on simulation results and shopfloor feedback
  • Capturing feedback from production and commissioning to improve future developments
  • Coordinating with robotics and automation engineers to ensure smooth system integration
  • Assisting during on-site testing, validation, and ramp-up of robotic systems
  • Developing technical documentation and guidelines for offline programming tools

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (specialization in automation or robotics is a plus)
  • Familiarity with robotic systems and automation technologies
  • Strong knowledge of production processes and industrial practices
  • Fluent English communication skills
  • Able to foster communication between multiple stakeholders
  • Team spirit and adaptability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Driver’s license (appreciated)
