About the role
The Program Technician II (PT II) processes various types of amendments to birth, death, fetal death, and marriage records, including Adoption, Acknowledgement of Paternity, Adjudication of Parentage, Court Order Name Change, Gender Reassignment, Gender Error, and a variety of other amendment forms. The incumbent reviews legal documents for compliance with Health and Safety Code requirements and discusses their application with county staff and members of the public, including judges and legal aid advocates.
Responsibilities
- Process requests to amend vital records according to applicable provisions of the Health and Safety Code, Government Code, Code of Civil Procedure, Family Code, and departmental policies and procedures.
- Apply detailed knowledge of all types of amendments to vital records.
- Review legal documents for compliance with Health and Safety Code requirements.
- Discuss the application of legal requirements with county staff and members of the public.
- Perform journey-level program specialist work under general supervision.
- Travel up to 5% of the time, including overnight stays.

- New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027.
