About the role
The Program Support Assistant will handle various administrative tasks, including generating correspondence, processing Powers of Attorney, managing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and liaising with external agencies.
Responsibilities
- Generates various types of correspondence.
- Processes all incoming Powers of Attorney.
- Determines if a prior representative must be revoked, prepares correspondence to notify all parties concerned, and updates the master record(s).
- Manages Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, explains VA FOIA/Privacy Act programs and entitlement criteria to veterans and their dependents, and handles limited release of information requests by providing copies of documents from the claims file.
- Acts as a liaison between Regional Offices and other Government Agencies such as Department of Defense and NARA.
- Performs other related duties as directed by the Team Supervisor.
Requirements
Required:
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
- Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: using various software to produce and transmit documents, utilizing automated computer systems to enter data and maintain case files, performing standard clerical duties to include maintaining suspense and follow up systems, and reviewing forms and documents for completeness and accuracy.
Education Substitution:
- To qualify based on education you must have: 4 years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Qualifications
- GS-5 Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
- GS-6 Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Promotion Potential
The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule
Full time, Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
