Program Specialist- Youth In Governement (YIG) Program- Walnut YMCA Family Location

The Specialist serves as the primary program facilitator, builds relationships with youth, parents/guardians, volunteers, schools, and community partners, and supports statewide Youth in Government programming in alignment with YMCA values.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the YMCA Youth in Government curriculum.
  • Facilitate workshops on government, leadership, debate, judicial processes, and civic engagement.
  • Create a positive learning environment and adapt instruction to participant needs.
  • Coach participants in leadership and communication; mentor delegates preparing legislative bills and judicial cases.
  • Promote civic responsibility and ethical leadership.
  • Prepare participants for the Model Legislative and Judicial Conference; coordinate registrations, logistics, and communications.
  • Supervise participants during conferences and events.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding schedules, expectations, and events; provide ongoing participant support.
  • Maintain attendance and participant records.
  • Assist with recruitment, enrollment, retention, reporting, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with YMCA staff, schools, advisors, and volunteers; represent the YMCA Youth in Government program in the community.
  • Follow YMCA policies and child protection standards; maintain required certifications and trainings.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development; perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Two years of experience working with youth, civic engagement, education, leadership development, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree.
  • Workshop facilitation and conference coordination experience.

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of government processes.
  • Excellent facilitation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and mentor youth.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community.

Pay

$15.50 per hour. Final compensation is based on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
