Program Specialist, Dean of Students

About the role
Under the direction of the Dean of Students, the Program Specialist provides analytical, programmatic, advisory, operational, and conduct case support to programs in the Dean of Students' organization, including the Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Student Conduct, and Student Legal Services. Key responsibilities include student staff supervision, event coordination, training development, and serving as Campus Hearing Coordinator for the Office of Student Conduct. The role executes certification and eligibility check processes, manages equipment, oversees primary case intake, handles operational logistics, conducts analyses, and creates reports in support of the Dean of Students Division.
Responsibilities
- Supervise student staff and coordinate events.
- Develop and deliver training programs.
- Serve as Campus Hearing Coordinator for the Office of Student Conduct.
- Execute certification and eligibility check processes.
- Manage equipment and oversee primary case intake.
- Handle operational logistics, conduct analyses, and create reports.
- Prepare materials for public presentations, formal administrative reports, and other communications under tight deadlines.
- Present ideas and opinions clearly, both prepared and extemporaneously.
- Organize work with attention to detail and accuracy; set priorities and manage multiple assignments under fluctuating workloads.
- Prepare concise, accurate summaries of meetings and proceedings.
- Facilitate group processes and meetings.
- Conceptualize new projects, generate detailed proposals, and implement programs.
- Lead program planning and evaluation.
- Establish and develop collaborative working relationships.
- Manage highly sensitive and confidential situations with judgment and tact.
- Analyze situations, identify problems, and propose solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year institution or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced degree in education, counseling, political science, or related field preferred.
- Strong writing skills with concise, clear syntax.
- Ability to present ideas persuasively in both prepared and extemporaneous settings.
- Work independently, organize tasks with attention to detail, and manage conflicting deadlines.
- Interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively and diplomatically.
- Judgment and tact in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
- Ability to analyze information, identify problems, and propose solutions.
- Ability to report to work on time and professionally attired. Occasional weekend hours required.
- Working knowledge of university policies, procedures, and systems, including Federal and state laws regarding confidentiality of student records (e.g., FERPA) preferred.
- Ability to coordinate program development efforts and work effectively with colleagues on projects.

Schedule
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional weekend hours required.
