Program Specialist

About the role

The Program Specialist will split their time evenly between the TRIO Scholars Program and the Ronald E. McNair Scholars Program at UC Riverside. These programs are federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

Responsibilities

• Provide advising to a caseload of participants, including assistance with course planning, navigating campus resources, graduate school exploration, and career preparation.
• Provide program support including data entry and participation monitoring for TRIO Scholars.
• Assist with recruitment of program participants, collection of data for annual performance reports, and coordination of programming and student activities for McNair Scholars.

Requirements

• Experience working directly with TRIO or similar outreach/support programs.
• Knowledge of challenges encountered by first-generation, low-income college students and students with disabilities.
• Knowledge of academic records used to assist with advising.
• Basic knowledge of UC and the department/school/college.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Knowledge: Knowledge of challenges encountered by first-generation, low-income college students and students with disabilities.
• Skills: Basic knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population.
• Other: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns, ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Benefits

This position is grant-funded and subject to availability of continued grant funding. TRIO Scholars is in its first year of a five-year cycle, while McNair is in their fourth year of a five-year cycle.

Pay

The full salary range for the Program Specialist is $22.65 - $37.60 per hour. The expected pay scale for this position is up to $24.00 per hour.
