Program Psychotherapist II

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Analyze assessment data, case management, intake, and other discipline data to identify trends and tailor therapeutic interventions to optimize patient experiences.
• Partner with the patient to establish clinically appropriate, development-focused, and achievable treatment goals within the anticipated length of stay; update treatment plans as needed.
• Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments, including evaluation of symptom severity, chief complaint, co-occurring mental health disorders, substance abuse, and trauma.
• Provide individual, couples, family, and/or group therapy sessions, as well as education, brief motivational interventions, and social norming activities focused on the patient’s/family’s identified diagnosis and needs.
• Deliver crisis intervention during acute periods of setback.
• Monitor and evaluate the appropriateness of social services provided; perform chart audits, analyze data, identify deficiencies, and provide reports with suggestions for improvement to appropriate committees and individuals.
• Provide clinical supervision and document it appropriately.
• Lead and prescribe peer review activities; precept master’s-prepared students.
• Assist in treatment development, innovation, and improvements; participate in performance improvement activities and care management initiatives as directed.
• Meet with patients/families to resolve concerns, address complaints, and answer questions; advocate for resolution of care issues and access to resources.
• Complete all documentation responsibilities accurately and within established timelines, including treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, aftercare plans, and billing records.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, including understanding principles of growth and development over the lifespan and assessing data to meet patient needs.

Requirements

• Professional Counselor license, Marriage and Family Therapist license, or Clinical Social Worker license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (American Heart Association) and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification (must be obtained within 90 days of employment).
• Master’s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Educational Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related field.
• Typically requires 2 to 4 years of experience providing therapy in behavioral health.
• Some positions may require a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) upon hire.
• Some positions may require one of the following Substance Abuse licenses: Substance Abuse Counselor-In-Training, Substance Abuse Counselor, Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor, or Clinical Supervisor-In-Training.

Skills

• Extensive knowledge and skills in applying theory, practice, and techniques of behavioral health and/or substance abuse treatment services.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to function in a complex mental health delivery system.
• Skilled as a generalist with one or more specializations.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Frequently lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance; occasionally lift over 25 lbs. with assistance.
• Exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist.
• Ability to restrain and control patients who are outwardly psychotic or physically combative.
• Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
