This is an unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel within their final 180 days of service.

About the role

HII Mission Technologies (HII-MT) internship programs place transitioning military personnel into roles that align with their current or previous military jobs, offering potential full-time employment opportunities post-internship. The SkillBridge intern will train as an All Domain Operations (ADO) Program Manager, reporting to a designated Mission Technologies Program Manager. The primary goal is to learn program management principles, technologies, and core operational functions within a civilian contracting firm, while gaining cross-organizational industry understanding. The intern will also work on special projects as needed.

Desired End State (3-4 month target)

  • Describe core functions of program management, including software technologies, government contracting procedures, and managing program operations to meet production schedules.
  • Gain functional understanding of schedule, performance, and risk identification/mitigation for systems, tools, equipment, software, facilities, and other initiatives.
  • Understand profit and loss dynamics of large, complex programs.
  • Train on all phases of programs from inception through completion, including tracking cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Support programs spanning multiple business functions and remote locations, while working primarily at one geographic site.

Assumptions/Restrictions

  • SkillBridge interns are not authorized to represent HII to DoD or Government customers during the internship.
  • Interns may train behind the scenes but cannot interact with customers.

Responsibilities

Training Plan

Phase 1 - Basics
  • Week 1: In-processing, introductions, and office familiarization.
  • Week 2: Introduction to Program Management, Operations, Annual Operating Plans, and business development.
  • Week 3: Introduction to primary customer contact for program activities; leading program review sessions on cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Week 4: Introduction to program milestones, monitoring adherence to master plans, identifying program problems, and obtaining solutions (e.g., resource allocation or contractual changes).
  • Week 5: Introduction to the work of employees, including management-level roles in technical, manufacturing, and administrative areas.
Phase 2 – Program Management
  • Week 6: Project Management Institute (PMI) resources, research, and PMBOK training for PMP certification exam.
  • Week 7: Review of HII Mission Technologies portfolio, including C5ISR, cyber, secure enterprise IT, military training, logistics, and fleet maintenance.
  • Week 8: Coordinate resolutions to production-related problems.
  • Week 9: Manage required manpower support levels; study SOFA regulations for Korea operations, bilateral ROK-US environment, and compliance requirements.
Phase 3 – Federal Contracting
  • Week 10: Overview of HII Mission Technologies’ FEDSIM and IAC MAC contract vehicles, revenue generation, and DoD customer pathways.
  • Week 11: Interaction between Operations and Growth elements (Business Development, Capture Management, Proposals).
  • Week 12: Standardization practices across business groups, process options, and review of the previous 12 weeks.

Additional Goals

  • Networking and introductions to senior leadership within the All Domain Operations (ADO) Business Group.

Requirements

  • Active-duty military personnel within the final 180 days of service; applications accepted within the final 12 months of active-duty service.
  • Transitioning US military service member with program/project experience and a technical background.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance required; TS/SCI with CI Poly preferred.
  • If hired post-SkillBridge, a DIA Security Nomination Package including an in-scope CI polygraph is required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, with most recent experience within the last 2 years.
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree; an additional 4 years of experience may substitute for the degree.

Training location: Honolulu, HI (Hybrid).
