About the role
The Shellfish Division Director / Program Manager IV supervises, directs, and manages the Shellfish Division within the Fishing and Boating Services Unit (FABS). The primary goal is to increase oyster populations for their economic value to the fishery and ecological value to the Chesapeake Bay. This position also develops policy recommendations for senior staff, up to the Secretary, regarding the management and restoration of oysters and other shellfish (soft clams, hard clams, razor clams, and scallops).
Responsibilities
This position oversees four major programs within the Shellfish Division:
- Restoration – the oyster sanctuary program
- Fishery – the commercial oyster and clam fisheries
- Hatchery – oyster hatchery at Piney Point, MD
- Monitoring – the survey program that annually monitors oysters and clams
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, biology, or natural resources planning, management, or development
- Six years of experience in natural resources planning, applied environmental science, fisheries management, and/or marine sciences
- Minimum of two years of experience supervising staff in natural resources or data management
- Two years of professional experience working with natural resource stakeholder groups
Substitution notes:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field may substitute for up to two years of the required experience
- A Doctorate degree in a relevant field may substitute for up to four years of the required experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of professional experience in meeting facilitation, coordination, outreach, and public speaking
- Two years of professional experience in managing budgets, hiring, fiscal management, organizational management, and administration
- Two years of professional experience working with other State and Federal agencies
