Definition
The Program Leader plans and conducts department activities and events for the After School Education & Safety (ASES) Program at various sites, including but not limited to: parks, schools, recreational facilities and administrative offices.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives immediate direction from the Recreation Supervisor I/II or designee. No direct supervision of staff is exercised.
Examples of Essential Functions
Assists with the organization, coordination, implementation, and marketing of grant and department programs, events and activities.
Supervise and Instruct
Supervises and instructs less experienced recreation personnel.
Maintain Records and Prepare Reports
Maintains records and prepares reports as required.
Conduct and Guide Activities
Conducts and guides recreational activities such as arts and crafts, science, nature, drama, and sports.
Maintain Order and Assist in Training
Maintains order and assists in the promotion of and adherence to the department rules, regulations, and policies; assists in instruction of volunteer and subordinate personnel in in-service training and recreation workshops for leaders.
Perform Reception, Clerical, and Administrative Tasks
Performs a variety of reception, clerical and administrative tasks as necessitated by the assignment.
Implement Programs
Implements program within City and grant requirements.
Plan, Organize, Coordinate, Implement, and Participate in Activities
Plans, organizes, coordinates, implements, and participates in age appropriate, engaging, hands-on activities.
Interact and Stimulate Interest
Interacts and stimulates interest while conducting and supervising program activities including, but not limited to sports, STEM, art, SEL, tutoring, social activities.
Coordinate Enrichment Activities
Coordinates enrichment activities.
Monitor Students' Whereabouts
Monitors students’ whereabouts.
Plan and Implement Activities
Plans and implements age appropriate activities.
Education and Experience
Education: Minimum age of eighteen (18) years at the time of employment or High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One (1) year experience working with youth and/or the public preferred.
Licenses and Certificates
Depending upon assigned program, project, facility or activity, may be required to possess or obtain a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate and Multi-Media and/or Standard First Aid certificates prior to placement at worksite. Successful completion of the NCLB test or proof of 48 college units.
