This is a full-time position located at the front desk of the Freeman Poole Senior Center. The role involves working directly with our senior population and the public, as well as creating promotional materials such as flyers, social media posts, and maintaining the senior center’s monthly newsletter.

About the Role

The ideal candidate has a passion for serving the senior community, the ability to connect with seniors who have unique interests and needs, and experience establishing collaborative relationships with community organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, designing, and researching programming, services, activities, and events for the senior center, including community needs assessments, gathering supplies, creating informational handouts, and scheduling.
  • Implement and conduct programs, services, and activities, including classes for participants of varying fitness and cognitive levels, recruiting participants, and providing skill demonstrations.
  • Provide customer service to clients and the public, including answering questions, enrolling participants in programs, and resolving issues.
  • Coordinate programming and presentations, including scheduling speakers, activities, and demonstrations with community groups, schools, and civic organizations.
  • Plan, lead, and supervise events, including monthly recreational and social activities, arranging transportation, and recruiting participants.
  • Assist in public relations and communication by creating and distributing promotional materials (flyers, calendars, brochures, emails), maintaining distribution lists, and attending public events.
  • Provide clerical support, including preparing reports, updating calendars, transcribing meeting minutes, managing petty cash, and maintaining inventory of publications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience providing programs to special population groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cash handling experience.
  • Data entry proficiency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint) and Canva for creating presentations, flyers, and calendars.
  • Experience working with older adults.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of calls.
  • Experience processing registration requests.
  • Experience planning, organizing, and implementing activities such as health, educational, social, and arts-based programs.
  • Experience planning and implementing group trips.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Abilities

  • Tasks require exerting heavy physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of moderately heavy objects (20–50 pounds); occasional handling of heavier objects (up to 100 pounds).
  • Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals.
  • Ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, or traffic hazards.
