About the role
Grades of Green is seeking a passionate and collaborative Programs Instructor to help inspire and activate the next generation of environmental leaders. This role supports the planning and implementation of hands-on educational programs for K-12 students, educators, and community partners.
Responsibilities
- Program Delivery & Student Engagement (60%)
- Support the delivery of Grades of Green programs, workshops, school events, and community engagement activities for K-12 students, educators, and partners.
- Facilitate hands-on learning experiences and student leadership opportunities using established Grades of Green curriculum, resources, and program models.
- Aid in preparing materials, event logistics, and other activities that contribute to high-quality program implementation.
- School & Community Partnership Support (25%)
- Build positive, professional relationships with teachers, students, volunteers, and community partners while supporting successful program implementation.
- Provide responsive support to participating schools and assist with communications, scheduling, and coordination as assigned.
- Represent Grades of Green professionally at schools, meetings, and community events.
- Program Operations & Team Support (15%)
- Maintain accurate program records, collect participation and impact data, and assist with administrative and reporting needs.
- Travel regularly to schools and program sites throughout Los Angeles and surrounding communities.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and other duties that support the successful implementation and continuous improvement of Grades of Green programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience working with K-12 students in historically marginalized communities.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to be resourceful and resilient in unplanned situations.
- Clear, friendly, and professional communication.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace; Training will provided for other relevant software.
- Residing in the greater Los Angeles area strongly preferred due to in-person commitments.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs (a bag of soil!).
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental studies, sustainability, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with K-12 students, youth programs, camps, tutoring, education, or community-based organizations.
- Passion for environmental education and a commitment to Grades of Green’s mission of inspiring and activating students to lead environmental change.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and adapt in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace; willingness to learn additional software and systems.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel up to 4 days per week to schools and program sites throughout Los Angeles and surrounding communities.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check and any school district clearance requirements necessary to work with minors.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Experience working in diverse school or community settings.
- Residence within the greater Los Angeles area.
Pay
Total Compensation: $19.00 per hour (non-exempt) plus mileage reimbursement at federally approved rate and organization policies.
Schedule
TBD with your supervisor - typically 4 days per week, 4 hours per day.
