About the role

The AOA program instructor supports the Y's mission to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This position involves leading AOA-appropriate programs and branch activities, promoting member satisfaction and retention, and managing program areas.

Responsibilities

  • Execute AOA activities, ensuring proper preparation and adherence to schedules.
  • Work with YMCA leadership to facilitate, market, and organize AOA events.
  • Support AOA programming/events with additional staff as needed.
  • Manage AOA program rosters and balances.
  • Maintain a positive rapport with participants and keep the program area clean.
  • Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate AOA program activities.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including safety and hygiene standards.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Encourage member interactions and foster a welcoming environment.
  • Leave the program area in a safe manner.
  • Communicate and address any issues promptly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associates degree preferred.
  • One year's experience in programming/program growth (preferred).
  • CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire.
  • Adherence to Blood borne Pathogen standards and annual training.
  • Experience with computers and cell phones.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: One year's experience in programming/program growth (preferred).
  • Programming Certification: Active Older Adult Programming (preferred).
  • Technical Skills: Experience with computers and cell phones.
  • Skills: Strong customer service skills, excellent verbal and written communication, self-motivation, teamwork, and ability to model YMCA core values.
  • Knowledge: Adherence to Blood borne Pathogens standards and annual training.
  • Physical Demands: Regular use of a computer, sitting, reaching, moving around, lifting up to 50 pounds, and multitasking in a changing environment.
