Program Director, Pediatric Cardiovascular

About the Role

Provides strategic and operational leadership for multiple non-invasive cardiovascular service lines of the Pediatric Heart Center at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, including the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory, Fetal Cardiovascular Program, and Pediatric Stress/EKG Laboratory. Oversees clinical practice, operations, quality, accreditation, regulatory compliance, and resource management to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Directs multidisciplinary teams, establishing operational strategies, implementing new programs and service standards, and ensuring effective management of staffing, fiscal, and material resources. Collaborates with physician and administrative leadership to optimize patient access, coordinate clinical operations, mitigate risk, and drive continuous improvement across the continuum of care.

Department

The Pediatric Non-Invasive labs at UCSF consist of the Pediatric Echocardiography, Fetal Cardiovascular Program, and Pediatric Cardiovascular Stress and EKG. The non-invasive cardiovascular testing labs/departments provide a full spectrum of diagnostic testing to inpatient, outpatient, and outreach clinic populations across multiple sites within UCSF Health, including San Francisco and Oakland Hospitals. The teams supporting these sites include Advanced Practice Providers, Cardiovascular Technologists, Sonographers, Hospital Lab Technicians, as well as various other support staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee clinical practice, operations, quality, accreditation, regulatory compliance, and resource management for pediatric non-invasive cardiovascular service lines.
• Direct multidisciplinary teams and establish operational strategies, new programs, and service standards.
• Manage staffing, fiscal, and material resources effectively.
• Collaborate with physician and administrative leadership to optimize patient access and coordinate clinical operations.
• Mitigate risk and drive continuous improvement across the continuum of care.
• Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, researchers, sonographers, and other clinical staff.
• Coordinate schedules for patients, doctors, sonographers, and nurses to ensure timely service delivery.
• Improve the efficiency and delivery of cardiovascular processes while maintaining patient care standards and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Five (5) years’ work experience as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer in a dedicated pediatric Echo Lab.
• Five (5) years’ prior management/supervisory experience in a dedicated pediatric Echo Lab.
• In-depth clinical practice and applied background in one or more cardiovascular service areas.
• Advanced knowledge of industry trends.
• Strong knowledge of medical center, HR, and UC policies and processes.
• Knowledge of relevant external regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• Five (5) years of clinical work experience in an academic setting.
• One (1) year of experience in budget management.
• Demonstrated ability to improve the efficiency and delivery of cardiovascular processes while maintaining patient care standards and regulatory compliance.
