Program Director, Dental Assisting

About the role

As a Program Director for Dental Assisting at American Career College, you will guide students and associates to impact the lives of patients they treat throughout their healthcare careers. You will manage, plan, and implement the program to ensure compliance with accreditation and licensure standards, support curriculum development, coordinate teaching assignments, and mentor faculty.

Responsibilities

• Manage, plan, and implement the Dental Assisting program to align with college and departmental goals, ensuring compliance with accreditation and licensure standards.
• Participate in curriculum development and coordination, determine teaching assignments (including blended instruction), select faculty, and coordinate external facilities and instruction.
• Provide leadership and support for teaching faculty, serving as a mentor and fostering an environment of creativity and self-responsibility.
• Possibly teach up to a full-time load based on program needs and student enrollment.
• Monitor and analyze student attrition and retention data, collaborating with college leaders to develop retention initiatives.
• Attend at least one professional development activity and two in-service events annually.

Requirements

• Three years of full-time experience in a healthcare facility, with at least one year of direct patient care, including 40 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws/regulations related to programs, compliance, and accreditation standards (e.g., Title IV, ABHES, BPPE).
• One year of teaching experience in the subject area or demonstrated training in instructional methodology.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; baccalaureate degree preferred.
• Valid, active, current license as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), held for a minimum of two years.
• Certificate of Completion in teaching methodology (30+ hours) or must obtain within six months of hire.
• Current CPR certification.
