Program Coordinator for the Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer
About the role
The Division of Student Affairs at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Program Coordinator in the Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer. The position is an in-person, full-time, twelve-month University Managerial and Professional Staff role with benefits. This is a restricted position with a three-year term.
The Division of Student Affairs works with students to create the distinctive student experience for which UVA is known, guided by six core values—academic rigor, diversity and inclusion, health and wellness, honor, public service, and student self-governance. The Division consists of over 300 employees across four units: the Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer, the Office of the Dean of Students, Housing and Residence Life, and Student Health and Wellness.
Responsibilities
- Support senior leadership, including the Vice President, across four major areas:
- Meriwether Lewis Institute for Citizen Leadership: Execute program operations, including summer institute planning, logistics, participant year-round support, and day-to-day program management.
- Fourth Year Trustees: Serve as advisor, providing guidance and support as they plan and carry out initiatives.
- L2K Leadership Development Program: Support program delivery, including coordinating sessions, working with student participants, and ensuring smooth operation.
- Student Affairs Awards and Honors: Manage selection processes for the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, the Distinguished Student Award, Student Member of the BOV Selection, and Lawn Resident selection for Crispell and the Good Guy Rooms.
- Support student outreach and engagement initiatives led by the Vice President’s Office, including fundraising and other student engagement opportunities, often by supporting students in designing and implementing their own programs.
- Provide student support through mentoring, training, and coaching student leaders; helping students work through problems; and responding to challenges or crises, including meeting with students facing interpersonal conflict, psychological concerns, or other issues to counsel, mediate, or set expectations.
- Respond to related questions from parents, faculty, or staff.
- Handle administrative and incident response duties, including analyzing, synthesizing, and reporting data; assisting AVPs, deans, or other senior leadership with administrative matters; and completing special projects and assignments as needed.
- Support the University or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Two years of relevant experience highly preferred; relevant student experience may be considered.

- Understanding of the University’s educational mission, strategic aims, and programs, including student culture and the unique student self-governance model.
- Understanding of student development, identity development, and the intersections and complexity of social identities.
- Experience with assessment and data-driven decision-making.
- Domain knowledge specific to the Student Affairs program in which the Program Coordinator will work.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. Occasional travel to attend meetings and programs is required.
Pay
The hiring range is $53,000–$56,000, commensurate with education and experience.
