Summary
Under the direction of the designated Program Manager of Wasatch Adaptive Sports, the Program Coordinator leads the planning and execution of daily operations of WAS and is the direct supervisor on duty during programming, responsible for maintaining safe and successful program delivery. The Program Coordinator oversees the teaching of adaptive cycling, mountain biking, paddleboarding, kayaking, alpine skiing, snowboarding, and/or snowshoeing seasonally to children, adults, and veterans with adaptive needs.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with other WAS staff, instructors, and volunteers to ensure overall program success.
- Schedule, prepare, and manage the execution of daily program operations, including instructors, participants, volunteers, and equipment transportation.
- on-site risk management and safety procedures.
- Cook up with daily program volunteer assistants and lead volunteer training.
- Cook with scheduled groups and community partners to ensure the successful delivery of the program.
- Perform equipment safety checks and minor equipment maintenance as needed.
- Fit and adjust adaptive equipment for participants.
- Teach program lessons according to WAS teaching progressions as needed.
- Support instructors in participant assessment and lesson planning.
- Track and evaluate participant and instructor goals and progressions.
- Develop and lead program-specific training for instructors.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with program partners, resort employees, and community members.
- Communicate respectfully and think critically to promote a positive program culture.
- Pursue continued personal skill development.
What You’ll Need to Get the Job Done
- Required
- 3-5 years of job-specific work experience with demonstrated competence.
- Current UT driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
- Safely drive a pickup truck and a 16 ft. trailer. Prior experience preferred or willingness to learn on the job.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Commitment to continuous improvement.
- Practice effective team behavior and demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships.
- Basic equipment maintenance skills in the program specialty.
- Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive work environment.
- A passion for WAS’s mission and work.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work location.
- Preferred
- PSIA, AASI, and/or BICP certification(s).
- 1 year of experience teaching sports or recreation skills, preferably to people with adaptive needs.
Work Schedule/Requirements
- Full-time, year-round, hourly position.
- Consistent 40-hour weekly shift contingent on program schedule. Must be available for weekend hours.
- Regular interaction with the public in variable weather conditions in locations throughout Salt Lake and Utah Counties.
- Must be able to perform outdoor physical work for long periods of time.
