Program and Community Manager

Position Summary

CSR seeks a Program and Community Manager to help sustain and grow the Center for Climate and Security. This is a growth opportunity for an organized, self-directed professional to take ownership of core program operations, funder engagement, and team support functions at a small, fast-moving nonprofit institute working at the intersection of climate and security policy. The Program and Community Manager will work closely with the CCS Director, and will need to function independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple concurrent projects. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to interact competently and credibly with external stakeholders (including funders, advisory board members, and partner organizations), and a demonstrated commitment to being a reliable, flexible member of a small, close-knit team. The ideal candidate will bring genuine enthusiasm for and commitment to the CSR mission.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Lead and implement the Sullivan Climate and Ecological Security Fellowship Program, including recruitment, onboarding, mentorship coordination, and programming for fellows.
• Proactive development and management of the Climate Security Working Group, Advisory Board, and Non-Resident Fellows, including scheduling, agenda development, correspondence, and follow-up on action items.
• Help manage stakeholder engagement and convenings for key CCS projects on food and climate security, to include communications development, agenda-setting, and sustaining long-term relationships.
• Develop and manage a proactive publications and event calendar across CCS projects, coordinating with authors, editors, and communications staff to keep output on schedule.

Funder Engagement

• Drive follow-through on funder outreach and engagement priorities: managing commitments, tracking communications, and ensuring execution doesn't fall through the cracks.
• Work with the CCS Director and CSR executive team to draft and manage grant proposals, budgets, and reporting.

Administration and Personnel

• Help support day-to-day operations, coordination across projects, and a positive, high-performing team culture.

Qualifications

• Detail-oriented and disciplined, with strong organizational and follow-through skills.
• Strong problem-solving ability and sound judgment.
• Basic knowledge of foreign policy and/or security policy, and climate change issues.
• A team-player mentality and strong interpersonal skills.
• Experience with funder engagement and financial management, including grant proposals, budgeting, and reporting.
• An ability to thrive in a flexible, innovative, and largely remote working environment.
• Location in Washington, D.C. strongly preferred.

Pay

Salary range: $95,000-$130,000 depending on experience.
