About the role
The Program Aide on-call/Substitutes Employee plays a crucial role in providing educational, relational, and social experiences for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. They assist classroom staff, serve as a temporary substitute, and handle janitorial and kitchen duties. This position requires adherence to Save the Children’s values and standards.
Responsibilities
- Apply clear practices and procedures in daily job execution.
- Organize self and manage time efficiently.
- Inform manager of important issues.
- Build effective relationships within the workgroup and with children and families.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Assist classroom staff in all classroom activities.
- Support teachers in various aspects of the program.
- Provide custodial support as needed.
- Prepare and serve food in the kitchen.
- Assist in kitchen duties as needed.
- Perform bus monitor duties as required.
- Attend workshops, meetings, and staff and parent meetings.
- Adhere to Head Start Program Performance Standards and local childcare licensing regulations.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
- Follow Save the Children’s Employee Handbook, Human Resources Policies, and other resources.
- Operate a motor vehicle to fulfill job duties.
Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with certification as applicable by federal, state, or local Head Start or childcare regulations.
- Basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Ability to relate sensitively to children and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and families.
- Proven ability to follow directions and take initiative.
- Proven ability to keep information on families strictly confidential.
- Experience working with children with disabilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work.
- Some duties requiring repetitive actions and motion skills, keyboarding, and computer use.
Additional Qualifications
- Clear pre-employment background check requirements.
- Current and former Head Start/Early Head Start parents receive preference for employment vacancies.
Pay and Benefits
The base pay for this position starts at $15/hour. Additional benefits include:
