About the Role

Under the supervision of higher-level staff, the incumbent will provide support to Region One’s Construction Group. The selected candidate is expected to have experience or knowledge in writing, communication, computers, and Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the recruitment and hiring of Transportation Construction Inspectors and track using the statewide SharePoint database.
  • Initiate and send reports to the Main Office as required.
  • Implement new Main Office mandates regarding construction projects (e.g., transitioning to using ProjectWise as a main source of project document retention).
  • Administer the Construction Group’s CSMIN contract, providing construction field offices with high-speed internet, computers, printers, helpdesk support, etc.
  • Monitor the Regional Construction group’s overtime usage and track/analyze use against the allotted amount.
  • Work closely with the Regional Compliance Specialist to aid in approvals, monitoring, and reporting in support of the compliance program for Capital Construction contracts.
  • Organize and maintain active construction project files in support of the Regional Capital Program, as well as general office filing systems.
  • Act as liaison between the staff and Regional Training Coordinator to ensure staff are up to date with all State-mandated trainings.
  • Review Consultant Term Agreement estimates and approve for payment.
  • Serve a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience performing clerical, keyboarding, or paraprofessional work in an office environment.

Candidates may also qualify for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Additional Information

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, meaning no examination is required, but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications. At a future date, employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive status converted to competitive status without needing to compete in an examination.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The Department of Transportation will not sponsor a nonimmigrant for a temporary employment visa (H-1B or similar), OPT STEM, or for permanent residence.

Pay

The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations, and negotiated union contracts.
