About the role
The Program Aide ASES assists in the overall activities of middle school-aged students in an After School Education & Safety (ASES) program. They prepare daily program activities, lead activities, ensure a safe and engaging learning environment, and support students with homework.
Responsibilities
- Prepare daily program activities including materials and supplies
- Lead activities with a group of students
- Provide a safe, caring, positive, and interesting learning environment
- Take attendance and monitor students' whereabouts
- Plan and implement activities focused on building self-confidence, positive social interactions, and team building
- Foster positive social-emotional growth of students by following school rules and using a continuum of intervention strategies
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment by following health and safety practices and procedures
- Safeguard students during academic hours and enrichment activities
- Encourage students to use active study strategies and support their homework completion
- Foster alignment between ASES and the school day and communicate concerns with supervisors
- Administer first aid and follow necessary safety and emergency procedures
Qualifications
- One year experience working with students in a school setting or recent volunteer experience in a similar program
- Pass the CBEST exam
- Hold an Associate degree or higher
- Complete 2+ years of study at an institute of higher learning

Working Conditions
- Environment: Classroom, athletic fields, open campus areas, lunch areas
- Potential for frequent interruptions
- Physical demands: Sitting, standing, walking for extended periods, kneeling, crouching, bending, seeing, hearing, speaking, dexterity, lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects
Benefits
- Positions at Bernardo Heights Middle School, Black Mountain Middle School, Design 39, Oak Valley Middle, Meadowbrook Middle School, Mesa Verde Middle School, and Twin Peaks Middle School work 9.5 months out of the year (summers off), 2-3 hours per day.
- Positions at Oak Valley Middle School work 12 months per year, 2-3 hours per day.
