Specific Responsibilities
- Provides expertise and management consultation related to the provision of health services to Florida’s refugees/entrants.
- Collaborates with stakeholders and serves as a critical source of information related to the management of health services for refugee/entrant populations.
- Acts as a liaison between the Florida Department of Children and Families, Refugee Services, and county health departments.
- Supervises staff, including appraising, planning, directing their work, approving leave, hiring, and taking disciplinary action.
- Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets.
- Coordinates with State Health Office staff, county health departments, immigration officials, and the Florida Department of Children and Families, Refugee Services, on matters related to refugee/entrant health care services.
- Ensures the timely distribution of funding to county health departments through the agency’s schedule-c process.
- Oversees the Health Program for Refugees grant to ensure that the requirements and objectives of the grant are met on a timely basis.
- Develops refugee/entrant health goals, objectives, priorities, and procedures in collaboration with the Florida Department of Children and Families, Refugee Services, and ensures consistency with the State Refugee Plan.
- Collects and analyzes data related to the health of Florida’s refugee/entrant population and provides reports on trends and new developments.
- Prepares annual and ad hoc reports on immigration and refugee entrant health issues for use by the Department, county health departments, local health care providers, and government agencies.
- Ensures that refugee/entrant health issues and concerns are represented in relevant discussions with Medicaid, Medicaid HMOs, Children’s Medical Services, Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health, and the Agency for Health Care Administration.
- Researches the availability of alternative funding sources for providing health services for refugees/entrants and, if applicable, makes application to federal, state, and local resources. Interacts with other states, providing information on health issues in Florida as they relate to refugee/entrant populations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of refugee health issues and immigration laws.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with health care agencies, individuals, and community-based organizations.
- Knowledge of public health policies.
- Ability to write and produce professional level documents.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proven ability to function in a leadership position.
- Knowledge and ability to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Crystal Reports.
