About the role

The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) in the Penn State College of Medicine, in Hershey, PA, announces a tenured or tenure-line faculty position at the Professor level for a qualified individual with expertise in infectious disease modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct both independent and collaborative research in infectious disease modeling.
  • Teach graduate level coursework in infectious disease modeling.
  • Support the PHS mission by advancing health through research, education, and community engagement.
  • Participate in research projects that address public health issues such as COVID-19, emerging pathogens, opioid-related infections, rural health disparities, and institutional outbreak response.
  • Expend approximately 80% effort on research, 15% on teaching and mentoring, and 5% on service.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • A proven track record of scholarly activity in infectious disease modeling, including leading NIH-funded studies.
  • An established, externally funded research program in infectious disease modeling with demonstrated impact on public health decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Experience teaching graduate level coursework in infectious disease modeling.
  • Strong interest in methodological and applied work in infectious disease transmission modeling, outbreak detection and forecasting, integration of statistical, mathematical, and AI-driven models, model-informed policy evaluation, and modeling to support health systems and vulnerable communities.
  • Ability to lead and manage research projects effectively.

  • Knowledge of statistical, mathematical, and AI-driven modeling techniques.

Pay

The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and credentials.

Schedule

The successful candidate will be expected to expend approximately 80% effort on research, 15% effort on teaching and mentoring students, and 5% effort on service.
