About the role

We transform lives by addressing societal concerns through the genetic improvement of small grain crops. This position leads a program with national and international relevance, focusing on cultivar and germplasm development in wheat and potentially other small grains.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a program with national and international relevance in the genetic improvement of small grain crops.
  • Use innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to breed improved crop varieties.
  • Teach courses in plant breeding or other topics important to Crop Sciences undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
  • Contribute to the discovery, development, translation, and dissemination of knowledge to address societal concerns.
  • Train the next generation of experts and leaders in plant breeding and related disciplines.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in plant or crop sciences, plant breeding, or related disciplines is required.
  • Post-doctoral experience demonstrating leadership of independent or team-based research is desired.
  • Demonstrated interest and experience in student education and training.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to collaborate, and a willingness to engage with industry stakeholders and the public.

Qualifications

  • Strong record of original research in plant breeding and related disciplines, including quantitative genetics, genomics, plant pathology, biochemistry, and plant biotechnology.
  • Ability to use innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to breed improved crop varieties.
  • Experience in teaching courses in plant breeding or other topics important to Crop Sciences undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

  • Ability to collaborate and engage with industry stakeholders and the public.

Pay

  • The salary range for this position is $93,000-$160,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Schedule

  • This is a 9/12-month basis, 100% time academic, tenure-track position with opportunity for summer appointment.
