About the role

The Setnor School of Music within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University invites applications for a Professor of Practice – Sound Recording, to begin Fall 2026. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track appointment, with an initial three-year term and the possibility of renewal.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in studio recording, music mastering, studio acoustics, recording studio management.
  • Teach related courses as assigned by the Director of the School.
  • Remain current with current technology, trends, and practices in audio production.
  • Serve on various university, college, and school committees.
  • Participate in student recruitment.
  • Engage in student performances.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a related STEAM field from an accredited institution, or commensurate professional experience at the very highest level.
  • Significant experience in studio recording and live sound.
  • Technical expertise with audio production hardware and software.
  • An established music performance background, expertise in professional audio equipment and systems design, technical engineering skills, and ability to provide sound production instruction in a multitude of applications and musical genres.
  • Ability to utilize and implement new pedagogies and classroom strategies to advance comprehensive learning opportunities with a commitment to 21st-Century pedagogy.
  • Recording engineer with a developing regional to national profile.
  • Ability to develop strategies in defining and supporting the future direction of the music industry program and the School of Music.
  • A record of successful recruiting.
  • Organizational and leadership abilities.
