Responsibilities to Students

- Design instructional activities aligned with course rigor, program expectations, and objectives
- Embed interactive learning activities to engage students and develop active learning skills
- Prepare and use appropriate instructional materials compatible with course rigor and objectives
- Align learning opportunities and assessments with course and program outcomes
- Sequence learning opportunities to build student understanding progressively
- Integrate workplace professional skills (e.g., attendance, initiative, technology use) into the classroom
- Motivate students by maintaining an atmosphere of dignity and cordiality conducive to learning
- Adhere to college policies, meet all scheduled classes, and maximize class time
- Maintain scheduled office hours, including for online and hybrid classes
Responsibilities to the Department
- Follow prescribed course syllabi and adopted textbooks, including assigned readings
- Inform students of learning outcomes, class procedures, and grading policies at the start of each semester
- Demonstrate initiative and cooperative support for leadership, faculty, and staff to achieve strategic goals
- Attend and participate in required department and school meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair or instructional dean
Responsibilities to the College
- Teach in the modality (face-to-face, hybrid, or online) chosen by the College
- Maintain accurate records and submit student attendance and grade reports by published deadlines
- Model professional conduct and enforce student conduct policies
- Participate in required convocation activities and graduation events
- Maintain required memberships, licensures, or certifications per department and accrediting body standards
- Assume additional duties, including committee assignments, beyond assigned classes and office hours
- Demonstrate commitment to the college through participation in TJC-sponsored events and activities
Responsibilities to the Community
- Network with community members to promote TJC programs and students
- Exhibit conduct reflecting the mission, vision, and values of the institution and community
Work Environment
Work is performed in classroom, laboratory, and industrial shop settings and may require work outside of normal business hours. The position includes exposure to standard workshop environments, industrial equipment, machinery noise, mechanical systems, and maintenance tools. Work may involve indoor and outdoor instructional activities.
Physical Demands
- Typing, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
- Movement throughout instructional and shop environments
- Demonstrating industrial maintenance procedures and operating tools and equipment
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling equipment and materials up to 50 pounds
Travel
Minimal travel is required. Candidates must have and maintain a current, valid Texas driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
Qualifications
Candidates experienced in HVAC may qualify without formal academic credentials if they hold licensure and have an extensive work history. Two distinct qualification paths are available:
- Associate’s degree in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, with demonstrated competencies, or
- Combination of industry certifications, continuing professional development, work experience, honors or awards, documented excellence in teaching, and demonstrated competencies
Additional Requirements
- Participate in a mentorship program and educational leadership training during the first year of teaching
