About the role
The Professional Tutor is responsible for providing individual and small group tutorial support to HFC students. This position interacts primarily with students, faculty, and staff. The Professional Tutor may provide tutoring in-person or online.
Responsibilities
- Supports students in areas of weakness, while providing appropriate academic guidance.
- Assists students in understanding concepts and facilitating comprehension.
- Delivers knowledge effectively to students in a computer lab classroom.
- Identifies and develops content-specific resources to support student learning.
- Participates in training and professional development activities as directed.
- Works closely with the Learning Lab Coordinator and other departments and faculty.
- Uses good judgment and works effectively under pressure.
- Maintains records and information.
- Trains and assists peer (student) tutors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in program/curriculum/subject/etc.
- Master's degree in TESOL or equivalent preferred for English Language Institute positions.
- Advanced or terminal degree in program/curriculum/subject/etc. or field for Career and Technical Education Programs.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in program/curriculum/subject/etc. Bachelor’s degree and equivalent coursework in a closely related field may be considered. For English Language Institute positions only: Bachelor's degree and certification in TESOL, TEFL, TESL, or equivalent may be considered. Master's degree in TESOL or equivalent preferred.
