Professional Tutor (English)

Chenega Advanced Solutions and Intelligence Services, LLC (CASIS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Chenega Corporation, an Alaska Native Corporation, is a professional services provider specializing in Intelligence Operations and Cyber Support Services for the Department of Defense and other U.S. Government agencies. CASIS is part of Chenega Corporation’s Military, Intelligence, and Operations Support (MIOS) Strategic Business Unit, which supports large-scale government operations with over 1,700 employees across the United States and internationally.

About the role

The Professional Tutor will provide comprehensive in-person tutoring services at Haskell Indian Nations University, enhancing students' understanding of course materials, reinforcing effective study habits, and contributing to overall academic achievement. This role involves working with a diverse inter-tribal student population and supporting adjunct instructors with access to historical and mission-related resources.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the academic area for which you are tutoring, consulting with the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPA), Academic Deans, or other personnel as needed to evaluate credentials.
• Provide individualized or group tutoring to enhance students' understanding of course materials and reinforce effective study habits.
• Familiarize yourself with the history of Haskell Indian Nations University, student demographics, and the role of Tribal Colleges and Universities in higher education.
• Work with the VPA to ensure adjunct instructors have access to online and physical historical sources and references regarding the University's mission framework (mission, vision, and cultural values).
• Complete all required trainings from the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Education, and Haskell Indian Nations University.
• Demonstrate skills to work with a diverse inter-tribal student population and implement a culturally sensitive approach in consultation with the appropriate dean.
• Participate in semester assessments of tutoring services using higher education standards, with evaluations due on the Friday of grade-submission week.
• Assist students with tutoring in support of their English courses.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree, or an appropriate graduate degree in the subject matter being taught (except for Indigenous languages).
• Background check required.

• Understanding of curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning outcome alignment.
