Professional Development Nurse Educator

About the Role

The Professional Development Nurse Educator enhances the performance and professional development of healthcare providers and their continuing competencies. This role develops and coordinates educational programs and materials specific for nursing and patient care service areas, facilitating clinical excellence through orientation, training, ongoing staff development, and evaluation of clinical practice.

The Nurse Educator also collaborates with community healthcare programs, including high school and college/university-level student clinical placements, and participates in developing formal and informal education programs to improve quality standards, outcomes, and staff performance. They serve as a resource on new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information, staying current with nursing research and implementing Evidence-Based Practice initiatives.

Availability may be adjusted (evenings/nights/weekends) to meet staff educational needs. The role operates under the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development, the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and other state, accreditation, and national standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate educational programs and materials for nursing and patient care service areas.
• Facilitate clinical excellence through orientation, training, ongoing staff development, and evaluation of clinical practice.
• Collaborate with community healthcare programs, including high school and college/university-level student clinical placements.
• Participate in the development of formal and informal education programs to improve quality standards, outcomes, and staff performance.
• Serve as a resource and educator on new policies, procedures, equipment, and healthcare information.
• Stay abreast of current research in nursing practice and facilitate the implementation of Evidence-Based Practice initiatives.
• Adjust working hours as needed (evenings/nights/weekends) to meet educational needs.
• Travel throughout the SRHS service area to provide education in various units and classroom settings.

Requirements

• Graduate from an NLN School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
• Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Mississippi.
• Five (5) years’ clinical nursing experience appropriate for the area of specialty.
• Previous teaching experience or evidence of teaching ability preferred.

Certifications

• BCLS certification required upon hire and/or transfer; BCLS instructor certification required within six (6) months of hire.
• ACLS certification and instructor certification must be achieved within one (1) year of hire.
• PALS certification and instructor certification must be achieved within one (1) year of hire, if applicable to the clinical area assigned.
• Certification from national organizations specific to the nursing division preferred.
• De-escalation training must be completed by the end of position orientation (90 days).

Physical Demands

• Active work involving sitting, moving about the office/facility, and traveling within the SRHS service area.
• Exerting negligible force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects, including the human body.
• Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry infectious disease hazards.
• Repetitive motions, such as using a computer keyboard and copier.
• Ability to perceive sound at normal speaking levels and make fine discriminations in sound.
• Close visual acuity to shift focus between a computer monitor and printed materials.
• Ability to remain active for extended periods without undue fatigue.
• Flexibility to work assigned schedules, including off days, shifts, or weekends as needed.

Schedule

Monday - Friday | 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Availability may be adjusted (evenings/nights/weekends) as needed to meet educational needs.
